Laborer

Reports to: Director of Operations

Job Summary: The Laborer performs a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Director of Operations. These tasks include assisting with extra workloads, covering absences and vacations, and supplementing the department to meet any unusual changes. Responsibilities may include any combination of the following below.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties/Responsibilities

 (primary duties in bold):

  • Cleans and lubricates equipment, maintains the area free from debris and dirt, and readies or puts away tools as assigned.
  • Closely follows directions to operate machinery, hold or supply materials and tools, and load or unload items on machinery and/or assembly lines.
  • Cares for property by cutting grass, repairing things, pulling, and discarding weeds, or shoveling and removing snow.
  • Performs any unskilled job at the organization.
  • May be trained to act as a forklift operator, if applicable.
  • Reports any issues to the supervisor or a higher-level employee.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions.
  • Ability to work in a variety of roles.

Education and Experience:

  • Previous experience preferred.
  •  High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  •  Job training for this position is provided by the department trainer.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at times.
  • Manual dexterity as needed to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with the plant.

Museum Host

Reports to: Manager of Museum

Position: Part-Time / Full-Time

Hourly Pay Rate: $10 

The INFINITY Museum Host promotes INFINITY Science Center’s mission by providing superior visitor experiences through exhibits, hospitality, and by enhancing the visitor’s engagement experience through STEM-related activities. The Museum Host will explain and show educational movies, conduct science-related activities with guests, and engage them about the science center by answering questions and providing accurate information. Hosts will provide information and answer questions about INFINITY via telephone, work at registers for admissions and gift shop sales, and clean and restock the retail shop. Hosts will also assist with classes and special events on an as-needed basis.

INFINITY Museum Hosts will handle challenging situations calmly, with respect and a positive problem-solving mindset, and make providing superior customer service a top priority.

Qualifications

  1. Experience
  • Previous experience with informal education a plus
  • Experience working with children and families a plus
  1. Necessary Skills
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and professionalism when interacting with visitors, staff and volunteers
  • Has the ability and willingness to follow oral and written instructions
  • Possesses good work habits and is extremely dependable
  • Is able to handle tense circumstances and keep a positive mindset
  • Is able to problem solve in a timely manner

  • Insatiably curious and willing to learn new things

Performance Responsibilities

  • Punctual
  • Dress appropriately according to the Education Staff Manual
  • Follow opening and closing procedures
  • Follow the given schedule each and every day
  • Stay in assigned area of the museum
  • Be respectful of guests, fellow staff members, and volunteers

Terms of Employment

  • Must pass a standard drug test
  • Must pass a background check

Evaluation

  • Periodic evaluations will be performed. The basis of the evaluation will be the extent to which the performance responsibilities of the job are successfully handles and the extent to which job goals are met.
