Teacher Workshops

 

INFINITY offers a wide range of professional workshops for teachers on STEM related topics. The workshops emphasize a hands-on approach to STEM that can be integrated into any curriculum.  Please see below for more information about upcoming workshops. 

  • Workshops will carry .6 CEUs through Gulf Coast Education Initiative Consortium (GCEIC). CEUs are an additional $20. All paperwork and payment will be collected on day of workshop.

  • Workshops align with NEW Mississippi and Louisiana State Science Standards as well as Next Generation Science Standards.

The Environmental Effects of World Population

Saturday, January 25, 2020

9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Cost: FREE

Target Grades: K-8

Foster environmental awareness among your students. Present classroom activities that promote global citizenship and spark students’ interest in environmental issues while also building skill sets in scientific inquiry, data analysis, and critical thinking. This professional development will target K-8.  Teachers will leave with access to all of the hands-on and demonstration activities needed to use in the classroom. This professional development is provided free by grant funding and carries .5 CEU’s.  Teachers are responsible for the CEU fee of $20 made payable to GCEIC.  Lunch is on your own.  You may bring a lunch or purchase a lunch from INFINITY’s Café.  (Minimum number of attendees 10)

Science Buffet

Cost: FREE

Target Grades: K-12

Fill your plate with a little of this and a little of that! This training will offer a smorgasbord of science activities to tease the palates of your learners no matter what grade level. We will show you engaging demonstrations and hands on activities that you can use in your classroom. You will leave with plenty of resources and your favorite meal from the buffet for you classroom.  This professional development is provided free by grant funding and carries .5 CEU’s.  Teachers are responsible for the CEU fee of $20 made payable to GCEIC.  Lunch is on your own.  You may bring a lunch or purchase a lunch from INFINITY’s Café.  (Opened to the first 15 attendees) No waiting list.

    Aviation - Wright Brothers to Wernher von Braun

    Cost: FREE

    Target Grades: K-10

    Through this workshop, teachers will gain the knowledge and resources in aviation to help students understand the science, technology, and applications of flight. Teachers will leave with access to resources gathered from multiple experts including the Civil Air Patrol. You will have what it takes to guide your students to a deeper appreciation of physics, weather, and engineering concepts. This professional development is provided free by grant funding and carries .5 CEU’s.  Teachers are responsible for the CEU’s fee of $20 made payable to GCEIC.  Lunch is on your own.  You may bring a lunch or purchase a lunch from INFINITY’s Café.  (Open to the first 15 attendees) No waiting list.

    Family ENGINEERING OR SPACE Night Planning: $150

    Let INFINITY organize and plan your Engineering or Space (Astro Camp Collaborative) Family Night.  You give us the date; select your set up and we will make the schedule, provide the curriculum and outline the activities.  Fee includes up to 2 hours consultation and we will provide a 15-minute educational power point presentation and a cost effective supply list.     Education Ambassador Training

    60 hours= 6 CEUs included

    Time: 8:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

    Target grade: K-12

    INFINITY is looking for 10 dedicated educators for a special professional development program, The Education Outreach Demonstration Ambassador Training.  Participants will be trained in various science activities and areas. Some of the areas that you will be receive training in are Chemistry, Physics, States of Matter, Space/Astronomy, Ecology and Environmental Sciences.  You must be able to commit to attending ten (10) Saturday’s during the 2019-20 school year. The following dates are scheduled dates for training:

    2019- September 28, October 19, November 9, and December 14

    2020- January 11, March 14, and April 25

    Two more dates are to be determined. One Saturday will be self-selected by each participant.

    There is a registration fee of $50. Space is limited.

    PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT

    Are you an educator in grades 6-12 looking for new ways to expand your science knowledge and engage your students in science research that matters? INFINITY Science Center is pleased to announce the ISC Watershed Education & Environmental Impact Program for educators in the following counties and parishes:

    Mississippi Counties: Pearl River, Stone, George, Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson
    Louisiana Parishes: St. Bernard, Orleans, and St. Tammany

    This competitive program will be accepting applications for participation October 1, 2019-December 31, 2019.  We will select 15 educators from the pool of applicants.  Notification of those accepted for the program will be made by February 2020. 

    If selected to participate in the program teachers will receive the following:

    • Three day intensive  summer training program – June 23, 24, 25, 2020
    • Two days of INFINITY Science Center  in school support 
    • Fieldtrip including busing and subs if needed
    • $1000 stipend given in increments throughout the program. 
    • A chance to carry a student research team to the Southeast Regional Science Symposium.

    All participants are required to submit a student research project to the NASA GLOBE Virtual Science Fair OR attend the Southeast Regional Science Symposium to receive final stipend payment.

    COMING 2020 INFINITY EDUPRO WEBINAR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    INFINITY Science Center is excited to announce that we will be conducting webinar professional development starting 2020. These five 1-hour sessions will be on effective science teaching strategies and techniques. Webinar attendees must commit to 1 hour per week for 5 weeks. Cost for the webinar training is $70 resource access and CEUs included.
