Ceramic Engineering: Build Your Own Rocket Ship

Workshop Description:

Join Artist/Engineer Steve Barney for a hands-on STEAM workshop where art meets aerospace! Inspired by the historic Saturn V rocket on display at INFINITY Science Center, participants will learn the basics of ceramic sculpture while exploring the principles of rocket design and engineering. Using simple slab-building techniques, students will create their own small rocket ship sculptures out of clay.

This fun, hands-on session introduces key concepts in space exploration, material science, and design thinking while encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and cross-disciplinary learning. Designed for ages 8 and up, no prior clay experience is required. Completed sculptures will be kiln fired and ready for pickup at the museum two weeks after the workshop. Much like seeing Classic games transformed with modern twists, this workshop blends timeless creativity with innovative approaches to make learning both fun and memorable.

Participants also get to enjoy museum time at the discounted rate of $10, which is included in the ticket price.
